Minutes of meeting for March 17, 2010

Present: Marcel, Keith, Elise, Phil, Ken, Kevin, Mike

Regrets: Matt, Dennis

Keith approved the February minutes and Kevin seconded it.

Reports: Keith and Ken reported on the OPP meeting at the Twp office, both said it was well received and the OPP came well prepared. They both said the main concern of the twp is the accountability and the cost increases and weather to go with contract or with out and the differences.

Elise handed out criminal record check forms and a letter from our committee to everyone, to be completed at OPP office and returned at the next meeting if possible. (update: each letter needs the applicants name on it, so Elise will have new letters at the April meeting)

The Mason Chip Program is going ahead on May 28th at Rockwood Public school from 5pm -8pm during the school Fun Fair. Elise requested everyone’s help if possible and to wear their committee shirts to the event. Also requested was if anyone knew of a dental hygienist or a nurse to volunteer to do swabs for the DNA.

We discussed a way we could promote ourselves at the Chip program and any further events and thought it is needed, some ideas were pamphlets or a fridge magnet with our information and pertinent phone numbers or e-mail and web addresses on it, this would need to be done asap as to hand out for May 28th.. Elise is going to pick up the ice cream coupons from Beth and see how many are left over from a previous promotion and maybe hand them out as well.

Phil was to look into the seat belt campaign by the OPP for a $200.00 promotion budget, the deadline to apply was Feb. 19th, he needed the chairperson’s signature and some other information but Elise was out of town at the time and the short deadline passed so we missed it for this year but are now aware of time line for next year.

Mike will work on getting the web page of the committee updated with Ms Armstrong, updating the new members and a link to the Mason Chip Program and any other pertinent information.

Mike also brought up his concern with residents putting garbage out way to early for pick up and having more then the allotted amount of bags out, he sighted one area in particular on hwy #148 near Hazley Bay rd. Ken informed us that this resident has been contacted before about this issue. We all had concerns about such a late spring clean up date in June and concerns about people putting stuff out early and hope this will be well publicized and enforced like last year.

As per usual the discussion came around to our radar board and all were wondering if and when it would be repaired because this is of major importance to this committee and an ample amount of important information to us and the OPP. It was also suggested that if the board is not ready by spring should we or could we rent one from Petawawa.

Next meeting is April 21st, 2010 at 7:00pm at the Twp. Office.
