Laurentian Valley Community Policing
Minutes of Meeting
April 21, 2010
Present: Elise, Ken, Kevin, Keith, Marcel, Matt, Dennis, Mike
Regrets: Phil
Amendment to March Minutes: Ken Ahronson noted that both Ken Brown and Ken Ahronson were present at the March meeting and that last names were not added and therefore not clear who was being mentioned.
Under reports it should read Keith and Ken Brown attended the OPP meeting at the twp office.
Motion to accept amended minutes: Ken Ahronson
Seconded: Keith
Reports: Dennis reported that our cost for police last year was $841,424.00 the budget was for One million 42 thousand. We did receive a rebate check for times when the officers were not able to be on duty due to courses, seminars etc.
Our police budget for this year is 1.144 million.
Dennis gave the OPP stats to the chair to have on file.
Dennis spoke to Mr. Baird about the radar board. To our surprise he was told that it was not sent away like we were told it was going to be, but that Clause is in the process of fixing it.
Even though this may seem like good news that we should have a board back soon, the committee was still upset by the fact that the board was not sent away to be properly repaired as we were told it was going to be. Our question is what will happen next if it still doesn’t work. Then will it be sent away or will we have to wait again for Clause to have the time to try to fix it once again.
Again the committee feels like this piece of equipment is a very important part of our program and that we get a lot of substantial information from it. We would only wish that the township would feel the same.
Several committee members handed in their criminal records checks, there are only two left to be done. Matt and Phil.
Elise mentioned that everything is a go for the Masonic Chip program to be done at Rockwood Fun Night on May 28,2010. She was in touch with Jody Julius the fun night committee chair and they are going to look after doing the advertising for us, they will send home a hand out for the parents with the information on it about the program.
Elise mentioned that she will ask Jody to add the township website to the hand out with the information that the link to the Mason chip information page is on our page.
Elise mentioned that we have 223 Ice Cream coupons left and would this be something that we could hand out to the children when they are done getting their package done at the Chip program. The committee was unanimous and agreed that this would be a great idea.
Marcel asked if it was possible to have Coegeco present at this program. Elise will ask Jody and Tom Haight from the Mason program if there would be any problems with them coming.
Dennis volunteered to pick up the rest of the shirts from Kevin at Wonder stitch, he will also get a price on two signs that we would be able to use at Fun night to advertise who we are.
Dennis will also get permission to use the township logo on these signs.
Mike has agreed to bring his camera to fun night and take some pics to possibly use on our web site.
Elise will email Darcy to see if she has any pictures from the two chip programs that she has been a part of so that we might have some idea as to how things are set up.
Keith asked Dennis if the Township had any info or hand outs etc on Community Policing, or if Dennis could mention it to the Opp and see if they have anything.
Our web page is updated. All the information is great. It looks good. The only concern that some of the committee members have is that it isn’t that easy to find “community Policing” on the township site. It was mentioned that it was easier on the old site.
Dennis mentioned that maybe we could mention that to the township and see if there is somewhere else we could go that would make it easier to find.
Elise will email Tom Haight from the Mason program about what exactly is done with the hard drive on the computer that they use for the program. It has been mentioned that they do overwrite the hard drive which is all they can really do to get rid of the information that is taken from each parent. Matt does remember something said about this at our demo that we had.
Dennis mentioned sending a copy of the minutes to all of the council members, Elise mentioned that if she had their email addresses she would but they are not on the web site either. So we will continue to send a copy to John Baird and hope that maybe he will forward them to the other members.
Elise passed out a flyer she picked up from the OPP station on the Bike Rodeo that the Petawawa Community Policing Committee is putting on, and asked why they can do it and we can’t. So it was discussed and we decided to start small, and see if Beth is going to do one at Rockwood this year that we could help out with. And a few of the members will try to get to the one in Petawawa to see how it works.
The one in Petawawa is May 1, 10am-1:45pm.
Elise will email Beth to see if she will be doing a Bike Rodeo at Rockwood this year and if she is we would be interested in helping out since we didn’t get to do one last year.
Motion to adjourn: Mike
Seconded Marcel
