Laurentian Valley

Community Policing Committee

Minutes of Meeting

Date: January 13, 2010

Present: Dennis, Elise, Ken, Keith, Kevin, Marcel, Matt, Mike
Guests: Tom Haight from the Mason CHIP program (Child Identification Program)
Tom presentation was very informative, we had Elise’s son Chris go through the process so we could see first hand what is entailed.
The Masonic Chip program uses modern police approved techniques to create a child identification kit for the ones you love.
The kit collects photos, video, voice recordings, digital fingerprints, dental impressions, saliva swabs as well as traditional statistical information (height, weight, hair and eye color, etc).
The Masonic Chip program is brought exclusively to families by dedicated Masons and their volunteers, free of charge along with our sentiment that “we hope you never need to use it.”
The presentation was very informative and gave us all plenty to think about. We are considering having a clinic in Laurentian Valley as there hasn’t been one as of yet. Eganville, and Killaloe have both had clinics in 2009.
So the committee members will take what was mentioned and we will discuss it at another meeting.
Dennis reported on going’s on with the township, and at last night’s meeting he again brought up the fact that the Radar Board has to date not been repaired.
This raised much concern with the committee members as the time will soon be here again to have the machine in use. And since we only got a couple of weeks out of it last year because it was broken and not able to be used, we are really looking forward to having it operational this year.
We asked why it hasn’t been sent away to be repaired as we asked way back in September, 2009. Dennis couldn’t answer.
We were unable to have elections at this meeting as we ran out of time, and we would like to have all members present.
Elise is to contact Beth Ethier about getting back the Ice Cream coupons; we didn’t get really any response from them at all this year.
We will see if this is something we want to continue with or not.
Elise mentioned having our web page updated as we now have new members, and we will wait until after the election. But Ken did mention since the new web site was formed that his progress with Clause about having things added to our page or things updated etc has ceased. Ken feels very disappointed and expressed his concern that our concerns are not taken seriously. Elise mentioned that she also has those concerns.
Next meeting Feb 10, 2010
Motion to adjourn: Ken, seconded Marcel
