Community Policing Commitee Meeting Minutes of February 10th 2010

Laurentian Valley
Community Policing Committee
Minutes of Meeting
February 10, 2010

Present: Dennis, Marcel, Keith, Elise, Mike, Phil

Regrets: Ken, Kevin

Reports: Dennis reported on the stats from the OPP on the amount of crimes reports, crimes solved etc.

Dennis also mentioned that on Tuesday February 16, 2010 there will be an open meeting at the Township Office on Witt Rd with the members from the OPP. At this meeting council and residents will be able to ask questions and voice concerns to the OPP in conjunction with the increase in policing costs.

As there is a concern for members of our committee we will be sending a member to sit in on this meeting.

A vote was taken to see how many would like to go ahead with the Mason’s Chip program, as all were in favor of going ahead, the discussion turned to where and when.

Elise mentioned that Rockwood’s Fun Night is happening at the end of May, and that this might be a good opportunity for us, as there are a lot of families that attend, and it is in Laurentian Valley.

There was some concern that this was not necessarily the best place, some were concerned that other residents of Laurentian Valley that don’t attend Rockwood would not be informed.

The decision was to contact the Fun Night committee and see if it would be possible to get a room first, and if it turns out to be successful we would consider having another clinic later in the year. (those interested in the CHIP program can visit the web site at www.masonichip.com)

Elise will contact the Fun Night Committee and report back to the committee.

Keith wanted to take this time to say Thank you to Dennis and Council for the wonderful Christmas Party. It was truly delightful and very much appreciated by all who attended.

Keith handed Elise his criminal records check, and also the new forms for the committee members to have their done.

Elise will hand them out next meeting as each one need a letter from the Chair stating it is needed for the committee.

Elise read an email she received from John Baird in response to her email concerning the speed board.
The committee was grateful that the matter was finally being addressed, and looks forward to the warm weather when we can see the speed board on our roads.

She also read the email she received from Ms Armstrong and Mr. Baird concerning the statements made in the January minutes reflecting our concerns on our web page.

Ms Armstrong informed us in this email that any and all updates and information is to be sent to either herself or Mr. Baird.

As this was not what we were originally told nor updated on we were still sending our minutes and other info to Claus.

Elise has passed this information on to Ken as he is the individual who is appointed to oversee our web page and any changes or additions made to it.

There was discussion on the upcoming seat belt campaign to run April 14 to 24. The themes are Buckle up Ontario and Booster Seats.

For free campaign materials we simply register our campaign activity by submitting the Registration form to Paul Allore.

To receive funding support of $200 for campaign activities, we need to send in the registration form and partnership agreement by February 19.

Phil has agreed to send in the completed forms for funding and will report back any status at our next meeting.

**amendment to the January minutes: that Keith was looking into getting forms for the criminal records checks for the committee.

Motion to accept the amended January minutes: Mike seconded by Keith

Carried

Elise has asked Beth Ethier to attend our next meeting to answer any questions that they committee may have, and at that time we will be making a decision on what we will be doing for the up coming seat belt campaign.

Elise is to pick up the remaining Ice Cream coupons from Beth at the OPP station. The committee has not yet decided what else to do with them at this point.

Marcel sent Elise an email that he received on
”How to Lock your Car and Why”

He along with many others always wonder if these things we receive are always true.
Matt sent a replay to this email explaining the “rolling codes” and how they work.

He also sent two web sites that we as consumers can use to check these email ourselves.
http://auto.howstuffworks.com  and http://www.snopes.com
