2008 First Quarter Test Report

1st Quarter Report 2008

Laurentian Valley Water Works manages just over 14 kilometres of water main and branch lines in the Township. Laurentian Valley Water Works received its Certificate #2893 as a Water Distribution System Class 1 in November of 2000. On July 15, 2005 the system was reclassified as Water Distribution Subsystem Class 1 by the Ministry of Environment. The Drinking Water System Information number for Laurentian Valley Water Works is W260007465. This is the first report for 2008.

Laurentian Valley Township has a water servicing agreement with the City of Pembroke. The water is purchased from the City and distributed in the Stafford Village area, part of Pembroke Street East and part of Pembroke Street West. The City treats and tests the water at the Pembroke Filtration Plant on Riverside Drive and tests the water in their distribution system. The Municipality tests the water in its distribution system.

This report and the Certificates of Analysis are available to the general public at the front counter of the Municipal Office at 460 Witt Road during office hours.

Quality Analysis

Water sampling was conducted by Claus Trost, Water Quality Analyst, Certificate number 12228, Morris Schneider, License # 13146 and Mark Zadow, License # 13145 The water samples were sent to Caduceon Laboratories Inc. in Ottawa for analysis. Caduceon is an ODWS Accredited laboratory. The results of the analysis are faxed back to the Municipality. The following chart is a summary of those test results.

Note #1

One sample tested greater than 500 counts/ml on a Heterotrophic Plate Count, sample taken on January 8, 2008 at Brum’s Dairy. All the other samples tested less than 2 counts/ml. 

Complaints

There were no complaints received in the first quarter of 2008

Staffing & Training

Laurentian Valley Waterworks has 1 Water Quality Analyst, 3 operators certified Water Distribution - Class 1 and 1 Operator in Training.

Construction

There was no new construction undertaken in the first quarter of 2008.

Maintenance

Flow Metrix was up to flow test the water meters on January 31, 2008. A problem with the main valve into the meter chamber was encountered. A new valve needs to be installed, parts are not available for the valve originally installed in 1989. A similar problem was encountered at the Willow Street Meter, installed in the early 60's. The water meter testing and calibration has been delayed until the valves can be replaced at the Elgin Street, Willow Street, Karen Street and Bruham Avenue Meters. The meters on Pembroke Street West were tested on January 31, 2008. On February 25 they tried to test the water meter at MacGregors Hill, however the small meter has malfunctioned and the testing has been delayed until this meter is replaced.

Three new residential services and two Commercial-metered services where turned on in the first quarter of 2008.

Community Lead Testing

A Municipal Lead Sampling Protocol was drafted in the first quarter. The Water Works hand delivered flyers to the targeted areas and started sampling as required by O.Reg399/07 at the end of the quarter.

Ministry of the Environment

The Municipality has completed a draft of the Drinking Water Quality Management System. How ever the MOE has not assigned the auditors and has not completed a peer review process for the Water Works to provide feedback on their draft documents. This document is due in December of 2009.

The Municipality received the Pembroke Water Purification Plant - 2007 Report as required by O.Reg 170/03.

The Water Works forwarded the required information to comply with O.Reg 450/07. (Customers using more than 50,000 liters/day)

Summary

In the first quarter of 2008, the water works purchased 11,422,781 gallons of water from the City of Pembroke and distributed it to 600 homes and businesses. Their were no incidents of adverse water quality.
