| 2005 Second Quarter Test ReportLaurentian Valley Water Works manages just over 13 kilometres of water main and branch lines in the Township. Laurentian Valley Water Works received its Certificate #2893 as a Water Distribution System Class 1 in November of 2000. The Drinking Water System Information number for Laurentian Valley Water Works is W260007465. This is the second report for 2005. Laurentian Valley Township has a water servicing agreement with the City of Pembroke. The water is purchased from the city and distributed in the Stafford Village area, part of Pembroke Street East and part of Pembroke Street West. The City treats and tests the water at the Pembroke Filtration Plant on Riverside Drive and tests the water in their distribution system. The Municipality tests the water in its distribution system. This report and the Certificates of Analysis are available to the general public at the front counter of the Municipal Office at 460 Witt Road during office hours. Quality AnalysisWater sampling was conducted by Claus Trost, Water Quality Analyst, Certificate number 12228 and Mark Zadow, Operator, Certificate number 13145. The water samples were sent to Caduceon Laboratories Inc. in Ottawa for analysis. Caduceon is an ODWS Accredited laboratory. The results of the analysis are faxed back to the Municipality. NOTE #1 - The water sample drawn on June 7, 2005 at the Valley Spring sampling location tested over 200 counts of background bacteria. Three follow up samples were taken from the area on June 10, the resample at Valley Spring revealed 67 counts of background bacteria, two other samples taken upstream revealed less than 1 count background bacteria. As all three samples showed less than 200 counts the issue was considered resolved. NOTE #2 - On June 23, 2005 the Municipality was advised that the sample drawn at Valley Spring on June 21, 2005 was adverse with greater than 200 counts background bacteria per 100 ml. Three resamples were drawn on June 25th. All three were analyzed with one or less than 1 count per 100 ml. The issue was considered resolved. ComplaintsOn April 11, 2005 the Works Department received a complaint of dirty water. The Works department had delivered flyers earlier advising the residents that there would be flushing which would create some localized turbidity. The complainant resides just outside the area that was advised of the flushing. It was not known that flushing the new mains on Fairview Avenue would affect the Hamilton Street Main. Staffing & TrainingLaurentian Valley Waterworks has 1 Water Quality Analyst, 2 operators certified Water Distribution- Class 1 and one Operator in Training. ConstructionThere was no construction in the second quarter of 2005. Two new services were connected to existing dwellings. MaintenanceOn April 11, 2005 the Works Department flushed the new mains in Phase II of Willow Ridge Subdivision. A water sample was drawn on April 12, 2005 for analysis. On April 21, 2005 after the analysis results were received, the water main was turned on. On May 20, the works department replaced the spindle on hydrant #49. Also, during the second quarter, 4 services were shut off and later turned on for customers to service their plumbing works. SummaryIn the second quarter of 2005, the Municipality purchased 13,798,214 gallons of water from the City of Pembroke and distributed it to 538 homes and businesses. Water quality analysis revealed two incidents of adverse water quality, which the Works staff continue to monitor.
