| 2001 First Quarter Test ReportBackgroundLaurentian Valley Water Works received it’s Certificate #2893 as a Water Distribution System Class 1 in November of 2000. This is the Municipalities first quarterly report. Laurentian Valley Township has a water servicing agreement with the City of Pembroke. The water is purchased from the city and distributed in the built up area of Stafford and part along Pembroke Street East. The City tests and treats the water at the Pembroke Filtration Plant on Riverside Drive and tests the water in their distribution system. Laurentian Valley Water Works tests the water in it's distribution system. TestingThe water is currently sampled by B&B Sampling of Pembroke, Ontario, whose staff hold the required certifications to sample water and test for chlorine residual. The Municipality has had a staff member take the OETC Water Quality Analyst Exam, and are awaiting the results. The water samples are sent to Seprotech Laboratories in Ottawa for analysis. Seprotech is an ODWS Accredited laboratory. The results of the analysis are faxed back to the Municipality. The following chart is a summary of those test results. Analysis
CommentsNote 1 - The average was 0 to 4/ml, however one sample tested at 94/ml, when retested it was down to 4/ml. Note 2 - Five samples taken on the Pembroke Street East section revealed a very low chlorine residual. This is a known concern, there being a large distribution system for future development, with only limited use at this time.(the samples are being obtained at the Wal-Mart which is currently the only building on a site that was developed for 5 buildings) The Municipality is monitoring this situation and flushing the end of the loop main when required to maintain a residual. Note 3 - The results of the Trihalomethane analysis have not been received yet, as it is the first one, it will be limited in what the results indicate. The results will be put online when received. ComplaintsNo complaints were received by the Municipality. MaintenanceThere were no water main breaks in the first quarter of 2001, and no new services were connected. All of the dead ends where flushed in January as part of the routine maintenance program. EducationThere are currently two members of the works staff studying Water Distribution System Operation and Maintenance to write for their WD-1 certificates. All of the works staff are expected to attend the First Aid, CPR & WHIMIS workshop, hosted by the Municipality on May 17 & 18, 2001. SummaryIn the first quarter of 2001, the Municipality purchased 10,535,760 gallons of water from the City of Pembroke and distributed it to 486 homes and businesses. Water quality analysis has revealed no indications of adverse water quality. The problem of low chlorine residual along Pembroke Street East should be resolved when the development of the Mall Site continues this summer.
