Cllr Bennett was first elected to Council of the Township of Laurentian Valley in November 1997. Now into his fourth term as a Councillor, Cllr Bennett has served the municipality in the following capacities throughout his terms:

• Chair of the Personnel Committee
• Chair of the Finance & Administration Committee
• Chair of the Planning and Economic Development Committee
• Chair of the Ottawa Valley Waste Recovery Centre Board of Management

During the 2010 to 2014 Term of Council, Cllr Bennett has accepted the following committee appointments:

• Chair of the Planning & Development Services Committee
• Member of the Corporate Services Committee
• Chair of the Ottawa Valley Waste Recovery Centre Board of Management
• Member of the City of Pembroke/Township of Laurentian Valley Joint Recreation Liaison Committee
• Member of the Strategic Planning Implementation Committee
• Chair of the Economic Development Committee
• Township Representative to the Waste Water Treatment Plant

Cllr Bennett is the owner/manager of a local business in Laurentian Valley with over 30 years of business expertise in a dynamic industry. "My business experience, education and background enables me to make sound, reasonable and practical decisions which are essential when representing ratepayers" says Councillor Bennett.

Cllr Bennett, his wife Kathy and family have resided in Laurentian Valley for 25 years.
